1. Shivanasamudra Falls, Karnataka

Based in Madhya district, Karnataka, Shivasamudram falls divide into two branches – the eastern and the western. Cascading down the rocky cliffs, these waterfalls are enveloped with great degree of flora and fauna, courtesy the hill forests of Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary. How To Reach: Nearest airport is in Bangalore and Maddur is the nearest railway station. Buses ply regularly from Mysore.

2. Dudhsagar Waterfalls, Goa
The Dudhsagar waterfalls rest on the Mandovi River in Goa. Dudhsagar falls among the largest waterfalls in India with an altitude of 1017 feet. The falls are a sight to behold especially if you go there in the monsoons, when the fall is in full flow. Water falling down from a height forms clouds of milky foam at the bottom, creating a visual of aesthetic beauty. Set amidst the crescent shaped valley carpeted with lush green flora, the falls are a perfect getaway for your honeymoon.
How To Reach: 60 kms from Panaji via roadways, 46 kms from Madgaon and 60 kms north of Belgaum.
Best Time To Visit: From November to February during summers or June to September during monsoons.
3. Athirapally Waterfalls, Kerala
An ideal place to spend monsoons with your better-half, the Athirappilly Waterfalls are the largest falls in Kerala. The sizzling silver water droplets fall down into the lush green forest, which is home to species like Great Indian Hornbill, Cochin Forest Cane Turtle and the Nilgiri Langur. Appropriately called the ‘Niagara in India’, Athirappilly falls can make anyone fall in love at first sight.
How To Reach: The nearest airport is Kochi International Airport. The waterfall is nearly 30 kms. from the Chalakudi Railway Station.
Best Time To Visit: June to September, i.e. the monsoons.
4. Bhagsu Waterfalls, Himachal Pradesh
If you go to McLeod Ganj and don’t see the Bhagsu waterfalls, you’ve probably missed on the best natural treasure the place has to offer. It may not be the biggest fall in India but its beauty is the reason that’ll attract you towards it. If you are a tech geek, Bhagsu is your heaven. This hippie mecca is your place to be if you are looking for some ‘ shaanti’ in life! Not only in McLeodganj, this is amongst the most beautiful waterfall in India.
How To Reach: Gaggal airport is the nearest airport. The closest railheads are Kangra and Nagrota.
Best Time To Visit: June to September, during summers or monsoons.
5. Soochippara Falls, Kerala
Soochipara Falls, also known as, Sentinel Rock Waterfalls, are located 23 kms away from Kalpetta, in the Vellarimala village. The waterfall is known for being a popular picnic spot and trekking spot. The place is ideal for rock climbing and holds a spectacular view. A great place to sneak out to with your gang.
How To Reach: 2 kms by road from the Elevayal Railway Junction.
Best Time To Visit: During the summers, i.e. June to September.
6. Elephant Falls, Shillong
Elephant falls are situated on the outskirts of “Scotland of the East”, Shillong. What make this waterfall stand out in the assortment of natural treasures you find in Shillong, are the three sections of the waterfall that flow in sequence. It is one of the busiest tourist spots around, especially if you go there in monsoon. During this season the fall is in its full vigour and even the locals can’t resist to get one glimpse of this mighty fall. So if that’s the time you visit the falls, make sure you know what to expect.
How To Reach: 12 kms from Shillong and a few minutes’ drive from the Shillong Peak.
Best Time To Visit: Between November to February.
7. Jog falls, Karnataka
Jog falls is the second highest plunge and the tallest un-tiered waterfall in India located in the district border of Shimoga and Uttara Kannada. Jog falls, surrounded by lush green forests, makes for an enigmatic vision. For the swimming enthusiasts, you can hike down to the base and take a plunge into the river. You may also go up to the Watkins platform to get an exhilarating view of the place. The nearby area makes for a perfect trekking spot. 8. Nuranang Falls, Arunachal Pradesh
Nuranang falls or Bong Bong falls are one of the untouched, undiscovered wonders of nature, which lies in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh. Surrounded by mystic views of Tawang, this waterfall is fast becoming one of the best tourist attractions in North East India. You need government permit to be in Arunachal Pradesh, so make sure you have all paperwork in place before you head to this wondrous fall. This is one of the best waterfalls in India.
How To Reach: It is 5-6 kms from Jang village and 20-30 kms before entering Tawang.
Best Time To Visit: Rainy season is the best time to visit.
9. Nohkalikai Falls, Cherrapunji
This dramatic legend is based out of the wettest place in India, Cherrapunji. The 335 m high falls rise, roar and splash on the rocks with a thunderous noise that’s clearly audible to you even at you stand at the viewing gallery, made at a safe distance from the place. The place has an astonishing landscape and presents some classic scenes for seasoned photographers. The fog clinging at the bottom of the furious flowing falls makes for a scene you must bring back with you.
How To Reach: The waterfall is 128 kms from Guwahati airport and from there you can take NH-40 that connects Guwahati with Shillong and NH-44 that connects Shillong with Silchar.
Best Time To Visit: November to February
10. Bhimlat Falls, Rajasthan
In the state of Rajasthan, which is famous for its sand covered deserts, hot afternoons and extremely cold evenings, Bhimlat falls do a good job at breaking the stereotypical image of the place. Based in Bundi, Bhimlat exhilarates the best of its charm during monsoons. The 60 meters high waterfall makes for a great scenic relief in the horrid summers of Rajasthan. If you’re planning an outing to the state, don’t miss out on this natural wonder.
How To Reach: The nearest Airport is in Kota from there 35 kms by road journey via Chittor Road.

11. Iruppu Falls, Karnataka
Sitting in the Scotland of India, Iruppu Falls are certainly a jewel of Coorg. This stunning marvel of nature is known for its untouched beauty that is waiting to be unraveled. Cascading from a height of around 170 ft above sea level, these falls boast about the rugged steps and a wooden bridge as the viewpoint. Also famed as Lakshmana Tirtha Falls, Iruppu Falls originate from River Kaveri and exhibit some of the most therapeutic views one has ever witnessed.
How To Reach: After taking the entry tickets for the falls from the booth near Rameshwara Temple, one needs to walk for around 15-20 minutes through the forest.

12. Talakona Waterfalls, Andhra Pradesh
Sitting in the Sri Venkateswara National Park in Chittoor is a stupendous waterfall gushing down into a plunge pool from a height of around 270 feet. These waterfalls are surrounded by the refreshing lush greens that are a treat for the eyes and soul. Legend has it that the waters of these falls are enriched with herbs that possess healing powers. With an extensive variety of plant species that can be found in this region, Talakona Waterfalls was declared as a biosphere reserve back in the day.
How To Reach: There is a 2 km trek from Siddeswara Swamy Temple that takes around 30 minutes to cover.

13. Mallalli Waterfalls, Coorg
The milky white waters hitting against the rugged rocks and cool mist spraying on the spectators is as refreshing as it can get. Mallalli Waterfalls are massive, around 1000 metres high and originate from River Kumaradhara. The lush green jungles surrounding the falls, the pool where the ferocious water hits, and the melodious sound of falls combine to offer an experience that is nothing but remarkable. These waterfalls in Coorg will simply take your breath away.
How To Reach: The nearest airport is Bangalore airport. By road it is 25 kms from Somwarpet, and the most convenient way of commuting to falls is through taxis or jeeps

14. Hogenakkal Waterfalls, Tamil Nadu
Hogenakkal Waterfalls exhibit a view that never fails to leave one stunned. The name Hogenakkal means ‘smoking rocks’. The waterfalls were given this name because as the falls gushes 66 feet down, the clear water hits the rocky cliffs underneath and forms a view that appears as if it was emitting smoke. The peculiar formation of these waterfalls is what impresses the spectators the most. It is definitely one of the most therapeutic and stunning views one can witness. You can also take a boat ride in the waters of the falls.
How To Reach: The nearest airport is in Bangalore and it takes around 4 hours drive from Bangalore to reach the waterfalls.

15. Hebbe Falls, Karnataka
Sitting in the district of Chikmagalur, Hebbe Falls are nothing less than a treat for eyes and soul both. These clear water falls gush down in two stages divided between Chikka Hebbe or Small Falls and Dodda Hebbe or Big Falls. These 168 meters high falls are perfect for those who wish to escape the hustle and bustle of routine life. One can take a plunge in the pool formed at the base of these falls. This herb-infused water is also believed to possess medicinal properties.
How To Reach: The waterfall is well-connected and one can either trek or take their car till the falls. The nearest railway station is the Tarikere junction.
